CHANEL
The Chanel Metiers D’Art show was, predictably, a masterpiece. Held at the iconic MET in New York, this very special show is held by Karl Lagerfeld to honour the craftmanship of the specialist workshops Chanel has acquired over the years. As dedicated hair artisans we could not love the meaning behind this more. This hair look featured a true wet look with waves that looked naturally sculpted into place, as if they had had fingers run through them after stepping out of the pool. Carefully pulled off the face, the sleekness gave the look a dressy edge from the front, while the organic shapes created at the back looked soft and feminine. The shine was the perfect complement to the gilded collection.
VERSACE
Encapsulating the many walks of life that New York represents, this show was high on glamour and a fun and refreshing change to laid back minimalism. The most amazing thing about this show were the little nostalgic treats littered throughout and total flashbacks for the 90’s and 00’s era- the reinvented Liz Hurley safety pin dress and the JLo Grammy’s dress were instantly recognisable. The hair was varied with one of the looks featured a simple and super sleek finish with a deep side part and the hair flicked over to the other side, creating a smooth wave on the crown. There was also some very fun theatrics with Barbarella-esque, comically teased and bouffant hair adorned with jewels. You can always count on Versace to make a statement of excess!
ALEXANDER WANG
When it comes to hair, we saved the best ‘til last. When you consider just how many fashion weeks there are around the world, then how many seasons and how many shows, you realise it’s pretty hard to truly create something new. But, this show achieved it with the three different looks. Look 1 featured the perfect mish mash of pigtails and dreads with a modern twist. These pigtails were less adorable and more futuristic thanks to the flattened pieces made to look like shards of hair. Look 2 again featured these dangerous looking shards but pulled off the face and back into a ponytail. Look 3 took branding to a new level thanks to the incredible embossed W’s sitting on the soft glossy blowouts. It was hair as art and we loved it.
